NZX rises nearly 1%

The NZX50 index rose 28 points, or 0.9%, to 3300 on turnover of $66 million on Friday.

Fletcher Building was up 10 cents to $6.18, Telecom up 1.5 cents to $2.13, Chorus up 10 cents to $3.10, and Contact Energy up 4 cents to $5.44

Sky City Entertainment was unchanged at $3.45, Sky Network TV up 7 cents to $5.24, and Fisher & Paykel Healthcare down 1 cent to $2.40

Air New Zealand was down 1 cent to 91 cents, Auckland Airport up 1 cent to $2.385, and

Port of Tauranga down 2 cents to $9.98

Vital Healthcare Property Trust rose half a cent to $1.115, Hallenstein Glasson was unchanged at $3.41, Pumpkin Patch was up 2 cents to 61 cents, and The Warehouse down 1 cent to $3.10.

New Zealand Oil and Gas rose half a cent to 70.5 cents. It has acquired a 90% shareholding in a company which holds an exploration interest in Indonesia.

Steel and Tube was unchanged at $2.05, and Sanford down 14 cents to $3.66.

Bathurst Resources was down 1 cent to 94 cents. It will start mediation next week with residents who oppose its mining project near Westport.

In currency markets, the NZ dollar was at 77.23 US, 75.93 Australian, 49.32 pence, 59.89 yen, and 0.5778 euro. The TWI stood at 68.48.
