The February 2011 Canterbury earthquake led to just over 8,000 homes in Christchurch and the Waimakariri District being red-zoned.

Of the 4,000 red-zoned homes on the Port Hills, 167 have been cleared, and clearance of another 45 properties is underway.

The authority said over 7,000 homes on crown-owned flat land had been cleared.

It said 17 of the 39 homes on flat land were still to be cleared but cannot be, due to unresolved insurance issues.
