Ngai Tahu kaiwhakahaere (chairman) Sir Mark Solomon has been appointed a director of the Maori Fisheries Trust, Te Ohu Kaimoana.

He was elected to the board by Te Kawai Taumata, which is the electoral college of iwi organisations.

He replaces Rangimarie Parata-Takarua who has been a board member who has served two four-year terms. Under the Maori Fisheries Act, she cannot serve more than eight years as a director.

Te Ohu Kaimoana chief executive Peter Douglas said Sir Mark brings a wealth of business leadership and governance experience to the board table.
