Salah came off the bench in the second half with Liverpool leading 3-1 and fired a treble timed at six minutes and 12 seconds between the first and third goals to turn a hard-fought win into a rout.

Player of the game Roberto Firmino also scored twice for Liverpool who are second in group A, three points behind leaders Napoli and six ahead of Ajax.

Salah's incredible treble took him to 38 Champions League goals for Liverpool, now the most by any player for an English club in the competition, surpassing Didier Drogba for Chelsea and Sergio Aguero for Manchester City, who both have 36.

Rangers remain without a point and have been eliminated.

Tottenham Hotspur took a big step towards qualification after coming from behind to beat 10-man Eintracht Frankfurt 3-2 in London.

The win put Spurs top of group D, but Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Frankfurt can all still make the last 16.

Italian side Napoli kept up their 100% record and secured progress to the knockout stages by beating Ajax Amsterdam 4-2.

Bayern Munich cruised past Viktoria Plzen 4-2, putting them through to the knockout round.

The victory combined with Barcelona's 3-3 draw with Inter Milan put Bayern through with 12 points, Inter have seven and Barcelona four.
