Vanuatu's new police commissioner is set to be announced this Wednesday.

Interviews were conducted with three applicants last week.

All three are ni-Vanuatu and are senior members of the Vanuatu Police Force.

The Chairman of the Police Service Commission, Api Jack Marikembo, said the selected candidate's name will be forwarded to the minister responsible for police, before recommending his appointment to the Head of State.

The three were shortlisted from eight applicants, including a foreign national, who were vying for the top police post.

Vanuatu has been without a police commissioner since 2014 when the former Police Commissioner Arthur Caulton was sacked by the President.

Since then, five acting commissioners have filled the role.
