Fast food giant McDonald's has lost an eight-year trademark battle against Malaysian curry restaurant McCurry

Malaysia's Federal Court has dismissed an application by McDonald's to appeal against an earlier judgment which allowed the curry restaurant to use the prefix 'Mc'.

McCurry, short for "Malaysian Chicken Curry", serves Malaysian staples including fish head curry. The firm is now looking to expand.

McDonald's has 185 outlets in Malaysia and is run as a franchise by prominent businessman Vincent Tan. It first sued the curry restaurant in 2001.
