The 58-year-old company director was sentenced in the Hamilton District Court to seven years and three months in prison.

Customs says the man uploaded the material to his social media accounts last November and was detected distributing it in January this year.

His home was raided by Customs in February and he was then arrested.

Customs said more than 12,000 objectionable publications were found on his phone, including some of the worst child sexual abuse material known to law enforcement agencies globally.
