South Auckland food bank inundated with calls for help

Anxiety levels are rising in South Auckland, as the city prepares for the possibility of an extended period at Alert Level 3.

A food bank at Ngā Whare Waatea Marae in Mangere has received triple the number of calls since cases of Covid 19 were found in the community on Tuesday. 

Puhi-huia Wade is the Essential Serrvices Operations Manager for the Manukau Urban Maori Authority.

She told Te Aniwa Hurihanganui that many people reaching out for support are feeling anxious about how they will put food on the table if the lockdown is extended.
