In Papua New Guinea, the State Solicitor Isikel Mesulam has been appointed as acting attorney-general.

The National newspaper reports Mr Mesulam replaces Francis Damem whose term expired last week Saturday.

Mr Mesulam's deputy, George Minjihau, moves up as State Solicitor.

The appointments were made by Public Services Minister Sinai Brown on the advice of the National Executive Council.

The newspaper says the Governor-General Sir Paulius Matane is expected to give his formal approval to the appointments.
