A man has been taken for mental health checks after dousing himself with petrol and threatening to set himself on fire in a National MP's office in Auckland.
It is understood the incident happened in the office of Kanwaljit Singh Bakshi in Papatoetoe. He is a list MP.
A police spokesperson said police and fire officers managed to talk the man out of going ahead. He was then decontaminated by the Fire Service.
The police said the man, an international student aged about 30, had been taken to Middlemore Hospital.
A staff member in Mr Bakshi's office in Parliament confirmed there had been an incident in his Auckland office.
She said she was still waiting for further information from the office manager.
Mr Bakshi, and his office staff in Papaetoetoe, have not been answering calls.
