Police in Auckland have arrested a woman accused of a string of assaults, including an alleged hate-motivated attack at the weekend.

Police had been searching for the 43-year-old woman since early September, but had been unable to identify her, Auckland City Central area commander Inspector Grant Tetzlaff said.

They said she was caught on CCTV assaulting "several" other people on Queen Street.

On Sunday police responded to a report of a woman abusing and assaulting staff at a store and realised it was the same alleged offender.

She now faces multiple charges, including common assault, assault with intent to injure, assaulting a police officer, theft and drug possession.
