Bangladesh whitewash Black Caps

12:11 pm on 5 November 2013

Bangladesh has completed a series whitewash of the Black Caps winning the third one day international at Fatullah by four wickets.

Batting first, New Zealand scored 307 for five and was hopeful of avoiding the 3-0 series clean sweep after Colin Munro hit 85 and Ross Taylor made 107 not out.

But Bangladesh would not be outdone, with opening batsman Shamsur Rahman top scoring with 96 in the highest-ever winning run chase at the Khan Shaheb Osman Ali Stadium - bringing the home side victory with four balls to spare.

Shamsur, playing only his second one day international, fell short of what would have been a well- deserved century when his attempted drive off a Corey Anderson delivery became an edge and flew to wicketkeeper Luke Ronchi.

Nasir Hossain (44 not out) stayed till the end to ensure Bangladesh never lost their way in the chase on the batting-friendly pitch.

The loss brought back painful memories for New Zealand, having also lost the 2010 one day series in Bangadesh in a 4-0 whitewash.

New Zealand captain Kyle Mills says Bangladeshi cricket has improved dramatically over the past decade.

He doesn't believe his side has gone backwards, though the world rankings suggest otherwise - NZ has dropped to eighth, now behind the West Indies.
