Heavy rain warning in place for much of Fiji

11:32 am on 6 March 2013

The Fiji Government is urging members of the public to remain vigilant as more heavy rain is predicted to move across the country today.

Heavy rain warnings are in place for most of Fiji, with most of the rain expected to fall in the Western Division.

Fiji Village is reporting localised flooding in low lying areas with a number of roads closed around the Western Division.

The Ministry of Information's Permanent Secretary, Sharon Smith-Johns, says the government cannot stress enough the urgency behind the warnings.

She says the public needs to take necessary precautions with the bad weather and put their safety first.
