A 12-year-old boy and three teenagers have appeared in Hastings District Court on charges relating to the violent robbery of a liquor store on Monday, which left a staff member with serious injuries.

The staff member from Big Barrel remains in Hawke's Bay Hospital in a stable condition.

The 12-year-old, two youths aged 17 and 18, and a 15-year-old girl are jointly charged with being armed with a knife, iron bar and a wheel brace, and stealing cash, cigarettes and alcohol.

The 18-year-old also faces a charge of grievous bodily harm.

All four have been granted name suppression until they appear in court next week.
