The Minister for Pacific Peoples, Sam Lotu-Iiga, is confident Pasifika shows will continue being produced as Television New Zealand plans to outsource those programmes.
TVNZ announced that it would contract out the production of most of its Maori and Pacific shows, such as Marae, Waka Huia, Fresh, and Tagata Pasifika.
Mr Lotu-Iiga said he would look into the implications, but did not think it would result in such shows being axed altogether.
He said he believed there were good independent producers that could produce strong Pacific content.
