A group of teenagers struggling for help in Wellington Harbour are lucky rescuers reached them in time, police say.
A police spokesperson said that the six were kayaking off Days Bay about 12.30 this afternoon when their kayaks tipped over.
They began struggling in the rough water and screaming for help.
The police maritime boat was sent to help, but members of the public managed to get to them first and take them back to shore safely.
The police said that the harbour was very rough today despite the sunshine.
