Emerging local musicians are given two minutes to introduce one of their songs and say whatever they like about themselves and their music.
Name of project: Beatcomber (Jono, Sam, Sophie, Thomas and Trent)
Age (of project): 1 year.
Hometown: Wellington.
Sounds like: Party times.
Musical guilty pleasure:
Trent: None, I like what I like and am proud of it. I don’t feel guilty about any music that I like.
Jono: None really. Me and my buddy Timmy do remixes of our favourite RnB tracks which is sometimes seen as not an ok thing to do.
Sophie: Nothing really that I'm particularly guilty about. Goodshirt? Self indulgently because of the 'Sophie' song.
Thomas: Late-night sing-a-long classics, a la Killer Queen and Benny and the Jets. Maybe even Sugababes’s 'Overload'.
Sam: Adriano Celetano - 'Prisencolinensinainciusol'. Nothing else.
Formative musical experience:
Trent: Winning a Dead Flowers cassette tape off of the Edge radio station when I was 7 and wanting to start a rock ’n roll band with my cousin. That progressed into looking up to my sister for musical inspiration, as she is 5 years older than me. She started high school just as I began to play guitar seriously. Her musical discourse with an older demographic was the guiding hand in what I thought was ‘cool’.
Jono: Passing the around guitar while jamming Marvel vs Capcom 2 with mates
Sophie: A Low Hum.
Thomas: Learning the three chords used in every White Stripes song.
Sam: Tap dancing to 'Yellow Submarine' as a six-year-old.
