Emergency services are searching for a kayaker who went missing off the coast of Wellington today.

Police found a kayak floating in Tarakena Bay on the city's south coast this afternoon at around 3.30pm, with some freshly caught fish on board.
Police inquiries identified a man who was thought to have gone kayaking this morning, but had not returned when expected.
A rescue helicopter was in the area looking for a man, while the police boat Lady Liz and a Wellington Airport rescue boat searched the water.
