Students storm Vice-Chancellor's office over fees

17:31 pm on 15 October 2012

Scores of Auckland University students have stormed the Vice-Chancellor's office ahead of a meeting about student fee increases.

The University of Auckland Council was holding a meeting to set fee on Monday afternoon and students were told there would be room for about 30 to attend.

About an hour before the meeting was scheduled to begin, about 100 students entered the building.

University security staff say the students were violent and some threw chairs at them.

Students say they will be laying complaints that security staff were the ones who behaved violently towards them.

No students have been allowed to attend the meeting, although about 10 are occupying another space in the building.
