No change to Rena

Maritime New Zealand says a flight on Thursday morning over the stranded Rena reported no new damage from poor weather conditions.

Attempts to remove the remaining oil from the container ship which is aground on a reef off Tauranga, have been suspended over the past two days.

Maritime NZ says salvage teams came off the vessel overnight and will return on Thursday to continue reconnecting oil pumping systems.

It says weather conditions have improved.
