Oscar Pistorius sobbed himself to sleep on his first night in prison, South Africa’s Times newspaper reports.
The former Olympic athlete has been held under close supervision in the hospital wing of Kgosi Mampuru II prison in Pretoria since arriving Tuesday.
Pistorius, convicted of manslaughter for shooting dead his girlfriend Reeva Steenkamp, was sentenced this week to five years' imprisonment, though he could be released on house arrest in as little as 10 months.
A prison source told the newspaper: “You could hear him. Shortly after the door closed you could hear the tears. He was torn up. Broken. The crying went on and on. We think he stopped when he fell asleep. It was really bad.”
