District health boards will take another look today at resolving differences with junior doctors.
Junior doctors are into the third and final day of a 73-hour strike - their second stoppage three months.
Negotiators for DHBs and the doctors' union have met several times over the past fortnight but could not stop the latest strike going ahead.
Members of the DHBs' Employment Relations Strategy Group are meeting behind closed doors today, without union involvement, to discuss the status of the negotiations and what the boards' next step should be.
Their advocates are expected to say they've gone as far as they can in talks with the union, but are not recommending settlement.
Whatever the outcome, all 20 DHB chief executives would still need to approve any proposed settlement.
