Three charged with New Plymouth murder

17:03 pm on 19 November 2008

Three men have been charged with the murder of a man in New Plymouth at the weekend.

Peri Niwa, 31, was found dead in a house in Squire Place on Sunday morning.

Martiu Pahau, Rangi Brown and a third man, whose name is suppressed, were arrested on Wednesday and charged jointly with murder in New Plymouth District Court.

The accused were remanded in custody to reappear on 4 December.

Police say inquiries are continuing into Mr Niwa's death.

Detectives know a party was held at a house in Blagdon Road on Saturday night and that a fight took place in a nearby street just before midnight.

There were a lot of partygoers, and many have been identified. However, police say they still need to trace those who have not yet come forward.
