One person has died following a single vehicle crash on State Highway 35 in Te Kaha, near Ōpōtiki.
The crash was reported around 4.40pm and a helicopter was sent to the scene.
Police said the road has been closed while an investigation takes place.
Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
