A Maori business advisor in Ohakune says a looming treaty settlement raises an opportunity for the people involved to boost their financial literacy.
Koa Business Advisors and Chartered Accountants are to provide free financial and business literacy workshops in the Ruapehu and Whanganui areas.
The company was contracted by Te Puni Kokiri to run the sessions for Maori organisations and whanau over the next month.
The director of Koa, Riria Te Kanawa, said understanding financial management concepts was especially important for people in the Whanganui business sector.
He said Whanganui iwi were at a point in their claims process where it was important that decision makers in tribal entities had good financial literacy.
