Former ADB's Davis appointed to PNG post

The former vice-president of the Asian Development Bank, Bruce Davis, has been appointed as Australia's next High Commissioner to Papua New Guinea.

The former High Commissioner, Deborah Stokes, left the role in July with no explanation with eight months remaining in her posting.

In the statement announcing Mr Davis's appointment, foreign minister Julie Bishop thanked Ms Stokes for her contribution in helping advance Australia's interests in PNG.

Mr Davis has previously served as Australia's ambassador in Ireland and the deputy security general of the Pacific Islands Forum, as well as serving as director general of AusAID from 1999 until 2009.
