Name and shame

12:19 pm on 10 December 2013

Building and Construction Minister Maurice Williamson plans to name and shame 14 buildings that are similar in design to the CTV building, which collapsed in the Christchurch earthquake and killed 115 people.

Since the inquiry into the CTV collapse, a nationwide audit of buildings with non-ductile columns has been undertaken: 176 buildings have been cleared and another 59 excluded.

Mr Williamson told Nine to Noon that 14 owners of buildings around the country with non-ductile columns have not booked an engineer to assess the structures.

He said the Government does not yet have the power to force the owners to get an assesment, but he intends to use moral pressure to make them change their minds.
