A volunteer team is on the ground in Christchurch and has been sent out to dozens of sites to help in the clean-up after the destructive earthquake on Tuesday.
The student group from the University of Canterbury was set up after the 7.1-magnitude earthquake on 4 September last year.
One of the group organisers, Louis Brown, said their main aim on Thursday was to head to about a dozen locations in some of the hardest-hit areas.
He says the volunteers are helping Civil Defence clean up liquefaction and assisting residents clean up their properties.
