Police in Christchurch say more boyracers than normal were out for a final burn on Saturday night.
But numbers were down on what police expected, partly they think, because of the cold weather.
From Thursday, 1 July, cruising will be banned on some suburban streets and all multi-lane streets including the four avenues where boyracers gather.
Inspector Al Stewart says up to 30% more cars were in downtown Christchurch.
But the evening was relatively trouble-free, with drivers moving in a planned circuit and generally behaving well.
From 1 July, people who breach a cruising bylaw could be fined up to $1000 or charged an infringement fee of $150.
