700 submissions to voting system review

11:27 am on 3 September 2012

Almost 700 people or groups have made submissions to a review of the New Zealand voting system by the Electoral Commission.

The submissions are in response to reform proposals issued by the commission three weeks ago.

These included a proposal to end a rule allowing parties which win one electorate seat to avoid the threshold for gaining list seats.

It also proposed to reduce that threshold from 5% to 4%.

The deadline for submissions is this Friday.
