Fiji's Labour Party is likely to have to work hard to rebuild its support ahead of any election after its involvement in the interim regime.
The Party's General Secretary, Mahendra Chaudhry, who was the interim Finance Minister, and two other interim Cabinet Ministers, left the ruling administration over a week ago.
But a political scientist with the University of the South Pacific, Dr Steven Ratuva, believes the party lost the backing of many when it decided to take part in the post coup, interim administration:
"The fact that the economy is spiralling downwards and supporters of the Fiji Labour Party who are being affected by the economic crisis are now turning their eyes away from the Labour Party, so he is trying to woo back the supporters who have left and at the same time trying to rebuild image."
Steven Ratuva says the withdrawal of Labour from the interim regime takes away one of the power blocks in the ruling administration.
