No immediate future for O'Connor in Australian rugby

The controversial Wallabies utility back James O'Connor is quitting Australian rugby to play in Europe.

The Western Force say O'Connor has informed them he intends to continue his playing career in Europe and won't be pursuing talks about a Super Rugby contarct with the Perth-based club.

Utility back O'Connor had his contract with the Australian Rugby Union terminated earlier this month and he was suspended from the Wallabies for the rest of the year in the wake of an incident at Perth airport and previous off-field behavioural issues.

The Force were his last avenue to continue playing professionally in Australia after the Melbourne Rebels didn't want him back and other Super Rugby clubs weren't interested.

The Wallabies coach Ewen McKenzie had expressed interest in helping the 23-year-old veteran of 44 Tests to get back on track but O'Connor has opted to head overseas.
