They were bright, they were bold and they were ready for a good time. The cream of the New Zealand music business crop gathered for the Aotearoa Music Awards on Thursday night - the first official celebration of the industry in two years.

Fresh off the back of a huge global tour, including an impressive set at Coachella indie-rock band The Beths took out two of the biggest gongs of the night - named the best group in New Zealand and their record, Expert in a Dying Field, won Best Album.

Not everyone could bag an official trophy, but that didn't stop the fun and frivolity. Check out the best pictures captured behind the scenes at the celebration of New Zealand music.
