Eight people have been killed and almost a dozen are seriously injured in New York after a truck was driven into people using a busy bike path.

- Eight people have been confirmed dead, with another 11 suffering serious injuries
- A rented Home Depot truck was driven down a cycle and pedestrian path in lower Manhattan, shortly after 3pm local time.
- The truck then collided with a school bus, injuring two children and two adults on board.
- After crashing the rented truck, the 29-year-old suspect was shot by police after brandishing a paintball gun and a pellet gun.
- The suspect is now in custody.
- New York mayor Bill de Blasio said the case was being treated as an "act of terror", but New York governor Andrew Cuomo said there was no evidence to suggest a wider plot or scheme.
- The NYPD Commissioner said a statement made by the suspect when he exited the vehicle was "consistent" with a terrorist attack.
