French skier breaks 100mph barrier

07:17 am on 22 January 2013

The French ski racer Johan Clarey believes he'll hold his barrier breaking speed record for a long time.

32 year old Clarey became the first person to break the 100 mile-an-hour barrier when he was clocked at 100.6 miles an hour during the latest World Cup downhill race at Wengen in Switzerland, although he finished only 5th in the event.

The previous record of 98 miles an hour, set in 2005, was broken four times on the hard packed snow on the Lauberhorn course, the longest on the World Cup circuit.
