Norovirus outbreak closes two wards at Dunedin Hospital

19:07 pm on 12 August 2008

A suspected outbreak of norovirus has forced the closure of two wards at Dunedin Hospital.

Twelve patients and three staff in wards 8B and 8A have fallen ill with symptoms including vomiting, diarrhoea, nausea and abdominal pain.

No patients or visitors are being admitted to either ward until further notice.

The hospital says one person's surgery has been postponed because of the outbreak, and other postponements are possible.

Last week, ward 5A was closed for four days because of a norovirus outbreak.
