Police discovered the 22 year old's body at a North Road motel in the suburb of Waikiwi, late on Sunday morning.

Southland Area Commander Mike Bowman said they are looking for Samuel Samson, 31, in relation to the homicide.

He is considered dangerous and should not be approached.

Mr Bowman said police are trying to track down guests who stayed at the North Road motel where the woman's body was found.

"We would be wanting to talk to a number of the other occupants in the other rooms, around the time of this incident allegedly occurring, we will try to locate them because they've obviously moved on to various locations around the country."
