Auckland's new mayor is calling for a fix on mobile black spots, but the industry thinks he might be out of range.

In an open letter to the heads of 2degrees, Spark and Vodafone - Wayne Brown's complained of constant dropped calls across the region.

He's asking them if there are any Auckland Council bylaws, policies or operations contributing to the problem.

New Zealand Telecommunications Forum chief executive Paul Brislen says there's a limit to what can be currently done about the issue.
