The salary of Fiji's Ambassador to Japan, Ratu Tevita Momoedonu, will be cut for the 11 days that he overstayed his approved leave in Fiji.
The Fiji Times reports that Ratu Tevita stayed in Fiji to attend a meeting of the Great Council of Chiefs after his leave had ended.
The foreign ministry says he had earlier been granted compassionate leave to attend the funeral gathering of a close relative.
Ratu Tevita, who was a minister before the 2000 coup, became ambassador after serving as prime minister for a few hours as part of proceedings to replace Mahendra Chaudhry.
