Rooney's position in Euro 2012 squad now in doubt

08:57 am on 14 October 2011

Debate's raging among England football media and fans over whether national manager Fabio Capello should now select Wayne Rooney for the Euro 2012 tournament, following the striker's three-match suspension.

That ban by UEFA following his red card against Montenegro rules Rooney out of group play at the European championships to be held in Poland and Ukraine, and many wonder if it's worth taking the tempestuous 25-year-old at all.

BBC pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Garth Crooks says it all depends on the draw in early December - if it's an easy pool then it makes it hard for Capello to leave Rooney out, and it'd be a brave man to dump him as he's world class.
