Prime Minister John Key will travel to Malta later this week for the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) before attending the COP21 UN climate change talks in Paris on Monday.
He says the focus of CHOGM will be on global sustainability, ahead of the climate change negotiations in Paris, but says there will also be a focus on security issues.
Mr Key says, at the Paris conference, New Zealand will be pushing for a deal that puts the world on a pathway towards limiting the global temperature rise to no more than 2°C.
Mr Key will also travel to Berlin, where he will meet German Chancellor Angela Merkel.
