A former senior regional banking executive has been appointed as the chair of the Fiji Sugar Corporation.

The former CEO of ANZ for the Pacific and Fiji, Vishnu Mohan, has been appointed to head the government-owned operation which runs Fiji's key sugar milling industry.

Fiji's prime minister Frank Bainimarama says Mr Mohan was appointed on the back of his strengths in leadership particularly in the banking and agricultural sectors.

Mr Mohan replaces Abdul Khan who continues in his role as CEO of the corporation.
