Samoa extends time to investigate alleged gun smuggling from American Samoa

10:56 am on 21 July 2008

Samoa's Attorney General, Aumua Ming Leung Wai, has extended investigations into the alleged illegal importing of four guns from American Samoa by four weeks.

The Attorney General says this will allow investigators to interview all witnesses before they complete a report.

Meanwhile the Prime Minister, Tuila'epa Sa'ilele Malielegaoi, says the only information he has been given is that the Police Commissioner, Papalii Lorenese Neru, immediately notified his counterparts in the Territory when the guns had arrived in the country on a police vessel.
