A total of 54 cane access roads in Fiji will soon be upgraded, thanks to nearly 1.9 million US dollar partnership between the European Union and the Pacific Community.

When completed, the work will benefit around 366 cane farmers and their families by reducing time and transport costs to move product between farms and the Rarawai mill in Ba.

The Head of Cooperation at the EU Pacific delegation, Christoph Wagner, said that the project tackles a key challenge for farmers, especially in the more remote areas of Fiji, by easing the transportation of sugarcane to the mills.

Mr Wagner said the project intends to deliver all-weather cane access roads through improved drainage and other works.
