Fire crews have been tackling a blaze at a steel manufacturing building in Bulls, in the Rangitikei District, this morning.
Crews were called to the scene about 3.30am and are now just dampening down hot spots.
At its peak, there were six fire appliances and three tankers with crews coming from Bulls, Marton, Whanganui, Palmerston North and Feilding.
Meanwhile, eight fire crews battled for almost an hour to bring a large fire under control at a equipment workshop in Flaxmere in Hawke's Bay last night.
The fire, on Kirkwood Road, was put out just before 10pm and contained by 10.30pm.
Fire and Emergency spokesperson Mike Wanoa said three appliances were initially called to the site at about 9.20pm, where they found the large building well alight and they quickly escalated it to eight appliances.
No-one was inside the building at the time.
A fire investigator is on the way to determine the cause.
