Auckland Council considers climate change impact on coast

15:00 pm on 1 November 2015

A study is under way into how Auckland's coast will be affected by climate change, Auckland's deputy mayor Penny Hulse says.

Ms Hulse is leading a group of local government leaders around the country who are urging the government to take tougher action to combat climate change.

The Auckland Council is looking at how the city will be affected by a rise in sea level and coastal erosion, Ms Hulse says.

"We're doing that work right now and as part of that looking at, do we rebuild some of these parks and seawalls? Or do we simply manage, retreat from our coastline, and move some of those parks and reserves, for instance?"
