The Province of West Papua has received 100 million US dollars in special autonomy funds in the 2009 budget.

According to the Jakarta Post, since its initial disbursement in 2002, the special autonomy fund had been managed by the province of Papua.

West Papua, however, was officially separated from Papua to become a new province in March 2006 by electing its own governor through a regional election.

The fund is taken from the state budget and becomes part of the regional budget.
