A lawyer for Papua New Guinea's former prime minister, Peter O'Neill, has appeared in court charged with forgery and attempting to pervert the course of justice.

The newspaper, The National, reported that George Lau allegedly attempted to mislead the court by providing a fake arrest warrant for Mr O'Neill.
Mr Lau is accused of colluding with a registry clerk to gather information, before presenting forged documents to the court to apply for a stay order against Mr O'Neill's arrest.
The police alleged the documents used by Mr Lau and Mr O'Neill were fake, and he was charged with forgery, fraudulently uttering and attempting to pervert the course of justice.
Mr Lau has rejected the allegations and will next appear in court on 20 December.
It's the latest in a legal vortex surrounding Mr O'Neill, with Mr Lau earlier this month launching legal action against the police minister, Bryan Kramer, who he accused of forging an arrest warrant.
