Sere: An adventure in sound

15:24 pm on 9 August 2016

Kick Out The Jams is a regular series where we profile acts from the New Zealand music underground. This week, we catch up with Auckland band Sere.

Sere have a healthy obsession with guitar pedals, tambourines and noise – three things that when combined create a unique brand of psychedelic doom-gaze.

The Auckland based four-piece recently embarked on a mini tour of NZ to release their debut EP on Arcade Recordings, and much like their live set, the release is a sonic exploration in fuzz-layered grooves, washed-out vocals and a driving, hypnotic rhythm section. Sere are an integral part of what seems to be a small-yet-thriving scene of heavy psychedelic bands working out of Auckland at the moment, and we're excited to see more of them making their way around the country.

We caught up with them in Newtown for a chat about their new record, their gear obsession, and the inspiration behind their sound.

Filmed and edited by Gussie Larkin and Ezra Simons.

Live sound by James Goldsmith.
