Timber firms told about expansion incentives

11:13 am on 27 March 2014

Labour leader David Cunliffe is talking to timber companies in Whangarei on Thursday about their potential for expansion under his party's new forestry policy.

Labour has announced a package of tax and other incentives which it says will lead to more domestic processing, if it leads the next government.

Mr Cunliffe says Northland's producing great quantities of logs but it's missing out big-time on jobs and revenue.

He says more than half the region's logs are exported unsawn, and 90 percent of their value is lost.

Mr Cunliffe says Labour would also resume its funding for roads that should have been upgraded before the logging boom.
